Writing Center News

     The CGU Writing Center was represented at the 2012 conference of The International Writing Centers Association by our Director, Katya Fairbanks, our Program Coordinator, Shamini Dias, and former Dissertation Boot Camp participant, Dr. Paula McGee, a recent CGU graduate of Religion. Together, they presented on “Shifting Definitions of a Scholar: Integrating Reflective Practice into Dissertation Boot Camp.” 

        The conference took place October 25^th – 27^th in San Diego and was organized by the Southern California Writing Center Association, of which the CGU Writing Center is a member. The presentation was well attended and fostered a productive conversation, including questions on the boot camp model shared by our panelists. The Writing Center Boot Camps continue to provide a community of support for students writing their dissertations where participants are provided the opportunity to focus on their writing, share successes and frustrations, learn to set realistic goals, reflect on their writing process, and receive guidance and support to see their work to completion.
