TEDx ClaremontGraduateUniversity

We are pleased to announce that CGU will be hosting the 2nd Annual TEDx ClaremontGraduateUniversity event on May 1, 2024, with the theme “Ideas worth spreading about the future of leadership.”

The first TEDxClaremontGraduateUniversity was held on March 23, 2023, with 9 speakers. Their talks are now available on YouTube.

Our TEDx Theme: Technology, organizations, and society are changing more rapidly than ever before. Leadership has become increasingly complex, and leaders must continually keep abreast of changes in economic, political, technological, and social conditions. What does this mean for the future of executive leadership? True to the CGU spirit of transdisciplinary thinking and the TEDx focus on multidisciplinary events, leadership will be examined broadly and will include leadership in both large and small business organizations and executive leadership in government organizations that provide public safety, government services, healthcare, education, and human services.

What are TEDx talks?

TEDx Format: TEDx talks are short, carefully prepared talks that engage listeners to think more deeply about a topic. Here is a summary of the TEDx talk criteria:

  • Open to CGU faculty, staff, and students
  • Talks range from 8 to 15 minutes
    • No commercial, political, or religious agendas – and no explicit self-promotion during the talk
    • No Q&A as a part of the talk
    • PPT presentations should be avoided or limited as much as possible
    • Talks are thoughtful and not divisive – no inflammatory rhetoric

Okay, I’m interested! How do I apply?

Application Process:

  1. Initial application of interest (1-2 paragraphs) that shares your talk idea and background expertise in the topic. Send a Word Doc or PDF to luciana.simion@cgu.edu with the subject line “TEDx Application.” Deadline: December 18, 2023.
  2. Applicants who pass the initial screening will submit a brief (2-3 minute) video “elevator pitch” for their talk to help us assess potential engagement. Deadline: January 19, 2024.
  3. Decisions will be communicated to successful applicants by January 22, 2023.
  4. Those applicants who have been selected will workshop their talks in February and March and will deliver a practice talk on April 11, 2024.
