What to Expect During the Application Process
| 1) |
You start the process by submitting an application to our office: Office of Admission & Records You have the option of applying online or via paper. For details on how to submit the application, click here. |
| 2) |
We prepare your application file for review by the academic committee. Please allow one week from the receipt of all your application materials in our office to assemble and submit it to your academic department for review. Due to a high volume of mail at the peak of the admission cycle (January – February timeframe), this process may be extended. |
| 3) |
Once all your documents are submitted, your file is complete, and the review process begins. Some academic departments will/can review a file prior to it being complete. (You may wish to check with your academic department for further information.) |
| 4) |
Each academic department has a review committee who makes the recommendation for an admission decision. |
| 5) |
You are notified of the admission decision first: in most cases by the academic department. Then, our office mails you an individual letter/packet. |
Tips for Online Applicants:
• Mail all your additional/supporting documents together in one large envelope.
• Write “ONLINE APPLICANT” on the exterior of the envelope. (Your application fee can be paid via credit card at the same time you submit the application.)
Tips for Traditional /Paper-based Applicants:
• Include all your additional/supporting documents with the application and application fee in one envelope. (An envelope is provided when you request the application packet from the your academic department.)
• When we receive your application, we will send you correspondence detailing the status of the documents in your file. If we are missing any items or if we have received unofficial copies of an item, we will advise you so that you can follow up by submitting official copies.
How long does it take before I hear from CGU about my admission?
This is determined by a variety of factors such as...
• When your file was completed and became available for review. See #2 above.
• The academic department – each one has its own committee & review style. Again, you may wish to check with your academic department for further information.
• Whether or not your academic department will review with unofficial copies of supporting documents in your file.
The decision?
As soon as the decision has been made, most academic departments call or email their own students to let them know. Following that, an official offer of admission letter is sent from the Central Admissions Office via mail.
