Stewart Donaldson has been appointed dean of Claremont Graduate University (CGU's) School of Community and Global Health (SCGH). Donaldson will serve in this capacity concurrent with his leadership of the School of Social Science, Policy and Evaluation (SSSPE).
Donaldson became dean of the former School of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences (SBOS) in 2001. Under his leadership, the school expanded research activity and achieved financial success and educational distinction. That school long has been recognized as developing the paramount program in evaluation science, and it has become the U.S. school of choice for graduate students in applied psychology and positive psychology. Just last year, as CGU moved forward with its realignment plan, Donaldson became dean of the School of Social Science, Policy and Evaluation which formed from the merger of SBOS and the School of Politics and Economics (SPE).
There already is cross-disciplinary collaboration between SCGH and SSSPE through their dual degree program in applied psychology and public health. This appointment provides an opportunity to facilitate additional cooperation between the two schools and with other programs at CGU, just as it supports SCGH’s mission to create problem-solving dialogues that lead to innovation in health, well-being, and an improved quality of life for individuals, families, and communities.
"We are grateful to Stewart for accepting this new responsibility and certain that students, faculty, and programs will continue to grow in distinction under his leadership," Provost Jacob Adams said. "Please join me in welcoming Stewart to this new post and in working to achieve success for SCGH and SSSPE."
