Guidelines for Conference Proposals
A proposal is a 250 word abstract or summary of the work to be presented. It is succinct but provides the reviewer a full understanding of the topic matter, the matter’s importance, actual or anticipated findings (if the work is research), and method of presentation (artwork, paper, panel, poster, or symposium). One might approach writing the proposal by verbally describing the work to a colleague. Students can apply the same conversational and descriptive style to the proposal. In the spirit of academic training, casual language and jargon should be avoided; reviewers outside of your field should be able to understand your topic. Students should type the first drafts of the proposal in a Word document (or an equivalent program with editing tools) to ensure correct spelling and word count. The final proposal can be copied and pasted into the conference web site’s online submission field.
If presenting artwork: Students will submit summaries of the artwork and presentation requirements through the conference web site. A digital photo of the artwork is required following formal acceptance of the proposal.
