Definition of WASC
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is a non-profit organization that evaluates the quality and educational effectiveness of schools, colleges, and universities.
WASC is one of six regional accreditation agencies in the United States. While it is not officially regulated by the government, it is regularly reviewed by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Institutions must maintain accreditation status to be eligible to receive federal financial aid and for other accredited schools to accept transfer units.
WASC grants and approves reaccreditation status for institutions for up to ten years, and oversees substantive changes such as new degrees, distance education formats, and degrees granted across institutions.
CGU will submit an interim report in Spring, 2014. This report will focus on:
- Strengthening diversity.
- Consistent use of assessment data for improvement across departments and schools.
- A strategic enrollment plan.
- Formal faculty evaluation processe.
- Continuing the momentum to enhance Transdisciplinary Studies.
Additional documentation for the community within CGU is available on the CGU portal in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness Community.
