Hideki Yamawaki

Hideki Yamawaki is the Ito Chair of International Business and Professor of Management at the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management, where he served as associate dean from 2006 to 2009 and as academic dean from 2010 to 2012.

He served as the co-executive director of the Innovation Systems Design (ISD) program, a concurrent degree program with the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena which was launched under his leadership in 2011.  The ISD program combines the Art Center’s renowned design and innovation curriculum with the Drucker School’s acclaimed management acumen. This program meets the needs of professionals who see the value in applying design methodology to business strategy.

Born in Tokyo, Yamawaki lived in (West) Berlin and Bruxelles before moving to Los Angeles, CA.  He was a senior research fellow at the Wissenschaftszentrum für Sozialforschung Berlin in Germany from 1982-1990 as well as a professor of economics at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium from 1990-1997.  He held a visiting professorship at the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA from 1995 to 1999.

At the Drucker School, Yamawaki has taught MBA and Executive courses, including Competitive Strategy, Global Strategy, Managing Across Borders, Design Thinking and Strategy, and Designing the Future. He holds a PhD in economics from Harvard University.
