Educational Studies: Professor Carl Cohn

The November Elections Results:
The Potential for Ending the School Cultural Wars Across the Country and Here in California

Monday, December 2, 2024
6:00 pm (informal fellowship starts beforehand at 5:00 pm)
Stauffer’s Albrecht Auditorium

The SES Community will be gathering on Monday, December 2, 2024, for a Magic Monday, a designated Monday each month when the greater community of Claremont Graduate University’s School of Educational Studies gathers for fellowship and enrichment. These events are open to our students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends.

This month’s enrichment activity: Emerit faculty showcase featuring Professor Carl Cohn.

Tile of Professor Cohn’s talk: “The November Election Results: The Potential for Ending the School Cultural Wars Across the Country and Here in California.”

Professor Cohn will focus on how progressives across the country and here in California are pushing back on the extremist takeovers of public school districts. He will also discuss a new Hewlett Foundation-sponsored collaboration that features a new initiative designed to dramatically increase political knowledge and skills in the preparation, training and support of superintendents.

Join us for this important lecture.

Structure of our Magic Mondays:
4 – 5 pm. On-campus office hours with core SES faculty. If you want to meet with a particular faculty member, please send them an email to coordinate as there could be special circumstances that prevent a faculty member from being on campus that day. In short, make sure your faculty know you are planning on meeting. Location: Faculty offices unless told otherwise by faculty.
5 – 5:45 pm. Fellowship/Informal Gathering. Grab a light bite to eat and connect with current students, staff, faculty, alum, and our community friends. Typically, in Stauffer 106, 925 North Dartmouth Ave. Claremont, CA 91711. (Stauffer Hall is the red brick building on corner of 10th and Dartmouth Ave.)
6 – 6:50 pm. Enrichment activity. We end the day with an enrichment activity. This might be a workshop or a lecture. Typically, in Stauffer Hall’s Albrecht Auditorium (very near where we gather to connect at 5 PM).
