The winners of Claremont Graduate University’s 2014 Tufts Poetry Awards were honored during a ceremony in Claremont on Thursday, April 10. Afaa Michael Weaver, winner of the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award for his book The Government of Nature, was presented with a $100,000 check by CGU President Deborah Freund. Yona Harvey, was recognized as the winner of the $10,000 Kate Tufts Discovery Award for her book Hemming the Water.
The Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, given annually to a mid-career poet, is one of the largest monetary poetry prizes in the United States. The Kate Tufts Discovery Award is given annually for a first book by a poet of genuine promise.
