Drucker School to host Case competition to combat poverty on April 18
Claremont Graduate University’s Drucker School of Management has partnered with LA+Acumen, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting poverty, for the Catalyst Case Challenge on April 18. The Catalyst Case Challenge is a competition that encourages students to find solutions to real-world social problems.
Leading up to the competition, two workshops will prepare students to participate in the challenge and focus on design thinking, social impact, and a mock-case trial run. The “live” daylong competition on April 18 will present students with challenges being faced by an existing social enterprise in South Africa, and ask them to provide solutions. After the competition, these solutions will be offered to the social enterprise for consideration, and potentially integrated into its operations.
Though the April 18 event will be hosted at Claremont Graduate University, the challenge is open to the undergraduate colleges and other educational institutions in Los Angeles and the surrounding area.
The competition is the result of a collaboration between the Drucker School, Drucker Net Impact—an on-campus student organization that works towards social and environmental sustainability through leadership—and LA+Acumen.
“The CATALYST Case Competition is a great example of one of a number of grassroots initiatives on campus to take that raw desire to make a difference, and hone it in our time at the Claremont Colleges, through not only the classes offered but also experiential learning and community,” said Jennifer Atwell, president of the Drucker Net Impact Chapter.
The competition is open to teams of three to four students apiece. Entrants should be invested in creating change through social innovation. The deadline to enter is March 14, and the workshops will take place on March 21 and 28.
