Claremont Graduate University’s Teacher Education Program names Hilary LaConte 2016 Alumna of the Year
The Teacher Education Program in Claremont Graduate University (CGU’s) School of Educational Studies is pleased to announce Hilary LaConte as 2016 alumna of the year.
LaConte, a three-term member of the Claremont Unified School District Board of Education, graduated from CGU with a master’s degree in education and a teaching credential in 1989. She will receive the award at the CGU School of Educational Studies’ Student Recognition Awards ceremony on Thursday, April 21.
“Hilary’s commitment to education embodies the mission of Claremont Graduate University’s Teacher Education Program,” director DeLacy Ganley said. “She is dedicated to fostering the academic success of all students, as demonstrated by her work on the Claremont school board and the many other leadership roles she serves in her community.”
LaConte is in her third term as vice president of the Claremont school board, having served twice as board president. She has served as the appointed representative of the Baldy View Regional Occupation Program Commission and has served as the elected delegate of the California School Boards Association.
She works at Pomona College as associate director of the Program in Public Policy Analysis. Prior to that, she taught for 10 years at CGU as an adjunct associate professor in teacher education, and she has taught in child development at Chaffey College and was a classroom teacher at Vista del Valle Elementary School in Claremont.
She is a past president of the Claremont Parent Faculty Association and past facilitator of the Sycamore Elementary Governance Council.
She also served on the board of the Claremont United Methodist Nursery School.
LaConte grew up in Claremont, attended Vista del Valle Elementary School, El Roble Intermediate School, and Claremont High School.
