Portrait of Iva Gueorguieva

Born in 1974 in Sofia, Bulgaria, Iva Gueorguieva is an artist living and working in Los Angeles California. Gueorguieva has had recent solo exhibitions at Acme Gallery, Los Angeles; Ameringer/McEnery/Yohe, New York; Susanne Vielmetter Projects, Los Angeles; and Pomona College Museum of Art, Claremont.

Notable group exhibitions include “Variations: Conversations in and Around Abstract Painting,” curated by Franklin Sirmans,  LACMA, Los Angeles; and “Making Sense: Rochelle Feinstein, Deborah Grant, Iva Gueorguieva, Dona Nelson,” curated by Margaret Miller, Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa.

Gueorguieva’s work appears in several public and private collections, including Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Von Liebig Art Center in Naples, Florida. Her art has been reviewed in Artslant, Art Haps, Art Forum, Los Angeles Times, and Art in America.

Gueorguieva is the recipient of the Orange County Contemporary Collectors Fellowship for 2012, the California Community Foundation mid-career fellowship for 2010, and the Pollock-Krasner Grant for 2006. She also received the Artist Residency Scholarship at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2005).

She received an MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia in 2000.
