John E. McGuirk is senior fellow at Community Foundation Sonoma County, and serves as an independent creative strategies consultant focused on helping to improve the impact of public benefit organizations and philanthropic institutions. In addition, McGuirk has taught strategic planning and change management at CGU for six years. Previously, McGuirk has held senior leadership positions at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the James Irvine Foundation, and Arts Council Silicon Valley, directing more than $400 million in charitable donations over the past two decades. He began his career working at Pittsburgh Symphony, Pittsburgh Opera, and the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View. McGuirk holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Grove City College and a master’s degree in public management from Carnegie Mellon University. McGuirk lives with his husband Richard on a small organic farm overlooking the Russian River in Forestville, California.
