Philip Dreyer is a professor emeritus of education and psychology in Claremont Graduate University’s School of Educational Studies. His research and teaching interests include cognitive development and education, child development, adolescent development, adult education, and educational assessment methods.
Dreyer received a BA from Harvard University, an MAT from Yale University, and an MA and PhD from the University of Chicago. Soon after receiving these degrees, Dreyer joined CGU as associate professor of education and psychology in 1976, becoming full professor in 1982. His tenure at the university has included a number of leadership roles, including dean of the School of Educational Studies (2005–2007), two terms as provost and vice president for academic affairs (1998–2002, 2002–2005), and director of the Institute for Developmental Studies.
In 1991, Dreyer also received a certificate at the Center for Bilingual Multicultural Studies in Cuernavaca, Mexico, where he did an intensive study of the Spanish language and Mexican history and culture. Dreyer has published extensively in the series Yearbook of the Claremont Reading Conference.
